June 28, 2014  Visiting

Today  was our last day in the area. It was a day to visit other places;
First we went to a mission that is to the east of Vicente Guerrero it was quite a drive up into the mountains. The mission was founded in 1775 and today it is a historical site.  Next visited an orphanage in Vicente Guerrero about 10 minutes south of our accommodation. The photo shows Joan and Cheryl giving a bag of medical supplies to the nurse, she also showed us around the orphanage.

The orphanage is home to about 68 children ranging in age from a few days old to 18 years, they have their own school just for the children in residence, a day care for single mothers of the area, a free medical centre for the whole area, and other day care for special needs children, as well as a hot breakfast program for the local community. The centre is run with a mixture of paid and volunteer staff all by private donations most of which comes from the USA and Canada.

Our third visit was to return to the school we had visited in 2012. The same school that we played baseball with and I am sorry to say that they beat us again in a friendly match. The photo is of the members of the Battle River Parish handing over some baseball gloves and balls as well as some school supplies to the teacher.

After a picnic lunch most of us went to one of the local beaches the water looks very inviting but extremely cold.
At this point a few of the 2012 mission members had the opportunity to re-visit the two homes and families that we built in June 2012. It was good to see that the homes were still standing and well used, in one case by three generations.
Tomorrow we drive to San Diego before we fly home to Saskatoon on Monday.

June 27, 2014 Dedication of Three New Homes

Today  was the dedication day. We filled the homes with the gifts and handed over the keys to the new owners. All the families were very grateful. It was a joy to see the smiles and tears on the  faces of both the families and on our mission team members.  Cheryl and Joan
