St. John’s Anglican Church, Borden
A worshipping community was established at St. John’s in Borden in 1905. The original building was rebuilt in 1963. The community has done an excellent job of maintaining the property. St. John’s is now the only dedicated church building in the village of 300 souls. The church is accessible with a ramp outside, a vertical platform lift to access the hall and an accessible washroom in the hall. In recent years St. John’s has become more of a community church with an Anglican flavour. In 2023 average Sunday attendance was 19. St. John’s has an excellent music ministry although the days of a choir are behind us. The Christmas service of Lessons and Carols is well attended by the wider community. There is a large ecumenical Bible study group that meets each Friday. St. John’s participates in World Day of Prayer services sharing with the people of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Radisson. There was a well-attended service for The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
St. John’s shares in ecumenical worship services at the Borden Care Home each month. Lay worship leaders have been raised up so that on occasion, worship can carry on without the need of a priest. Going forward, one concern is how the parish will look when the elders who know our story are no longer with us.
