The story of St. Augustine’s and d Trinity Lutheran in Rosthern is one shaped by relationship, trust, and an ongoing openness to God’s leading. Vestry notes from St. Augustine’s record that in the summer of 2021, Trinity Lutheran Council was approached to explore the possibility of partnership in pastoral leadership. At that time, I had already been leading worship occasionally at St. Augustine’s, and the two congregations had developed a strong ecumenical relationship through shared ministry in the wider community.

A part-time agreement was soon established between St. Augustine’s and myself to provide pastoral care and worship leadership. Over time, it became increasingly clear that this partnership was not merely practical but deeply natural. Both congregations shared a similar spirit that was open, hospitable, and committed to caring for the community and sharing the gospel.

By late 2022, it was discerned that maintaining two separate buildings didn’t make sense. The congregations began functioning as one worshipping community, grounded in Anglican and Lutheran traditions that value grace, sacrament, and the Word.

With the recent sale of the former Lutheran building to the Netherlands Reformed Church, the shared congregation is now moving back into the historic St. Augustine’s church building. This move is a faithful continuation of a shared life already well-established, freeing energy and resources for worship, unity, and service rather than bricks and mortar.

It is a story of following God’s leading with trust and continuing to do so with gratitude and hope. I’m blessed to play a part in it.
