The Anglican Diocese of Saskatoon has been actively involved in Refugee Settlement Work for over 30 years. Requests and inquiries need to be handled with the utmost care and discretion, lest the demand for settlement overwhelms our capacity to respond. We ask parishes to support our refugee settlement work with the understanding that details cannot always be shared. Please direct any inquiries to our Refugee Coordinator Tigist Gebeyehu K. via the Diocesan Synod Office. Our diocesan Sponsorship Agreement with the federal government is valid until the end of 2028.

Almighty and merciful God,
whose Son became a refugee
and had no place to call his own;

look with mercy on those who today
are fleeing from danger,
homeless and hungry.

Bless those who work
to bring them relief;
inspire generosity and compassion
in all our hearts;
and guide the nations of the world
towards that day
when all will rejoice in your Kingdom
of justice and of peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
AMEN

Our Refugee coordinator is kept very busy with helping refugees navigate the application process, settle upon arrival and educate parishes on how to help, She works in close partnership with local organizations such as the Saskatoon Refugee Coalition, the Open Door Society, International Women of Saskatoon, and nationally with Canadian Aid for Pakistani Persecuted Christians, PWRDF Refugee Network, and the Canadian Council for Refugees.

Recently we have welcomed individuals from Israel, Pakistan and Kenya. We are expecting more to arrive from Pakistan, Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya. Please keep in mind that refugee work by its nature needs to strike a delicate balance between advocacy and honouring confidentiality of the families involved. Much of this work takes place away from the public eye. We ask for your understanding and trust as we continue to meet the needs of refugees who turn to us for support as they arrive in our country, our province, our diocese.
