Our diocese is greatly blessed by the presence of three theological colleges on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan. The Saskatoon Theological Union (STU) is a federation of three theological colleges. This academic partnership was formed to facilitate cooperative and ecumenical approaches to the task of theological education. While remaining distinct and separate institutions, the three member colleges share their resources in significant ways.. While not an official part of the STU because it is not a theological degree-granting institution, St. Thomas More College is developing a unique friendship with the three STU Colleges, which finds its most visible expression in an annual conference hosted by all four Colleges in June of each year.

Learning together has always been important for the ecumenical movement; this latest expression of collaboration stands in a long tradition. Ecumenical learning had its beginnings as early as 1910. At the World Missionary Conference that year in Edinburgh, one of the topics discussed was “Education in Relation to the Christianization of National Life.

In a world rampant with secularization and globalization Christianity has become merely one option among many religious paths. Church leaders of tomorrow will need to be well-versed in various Christian traditions in order to be credible witnesses in a secular world.
